About Rachel
Hello! My name is Rachel and I am a mentor/tutor with 7+ years of experience. I have undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Psychology and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences with a concentration in Neuroscience.
In my junior and senior years, I was hired by my university to teach supplementary classes for Chemistry I and II students. This involved preparing lectures and practice problems/tests. I was also hired as a Chemistry I and II lab aide.
Throughout graduate school, I have taught students in my research lab complex biological, physiological, and neurological topics and laboratory techniques. I have also tutored undergraduate students in Chemistry with a very high success rate! Lastly, I have been an official high school mentor through the Polygence platform for nearly 3 years.
I am very passionate about instilling confidence in my students and finding creative ways to teach!

My approach depends on the topic and goals of the student. Typically, I spend the first session familiarizing myself with the class and study habits of the student. After that, it's a lot of practice problems! I find practice is more useful than more lecturing as I can see how that individual student processes and approaches problems. I excel at finding new ways to present information - we all have different learning styles and ways of conceptualizing complex topics! I love to see things click for my students and watching them succeed!
