My approach as a tutor centers around interactive, online sessions via Zoom and Google Meet, where I utilize multiple screen-sharing capabilities to enhance the learning experience. This setup allows me to present various resources simultaneously, from annotated notes and diagrams to practice problems and live demos.
Teaching Methodology and Techniques
I begin each student’s journey with an initial assessment to understand their unique needs, strengths, and areas for improvement. Based on this, I adapt my teaching style to fit each student, whether they benefit from in-depth foundational lessons or prefer more accelerated, topic-focused crash courses. My core emphasis is on understanding over memorization, encouraging students to grasp the “why” behind concepts, which fosters lasting retention and independent problem-solving skills. At the end of most sessions, students work through self-created practice problems designed to reinforce key concepts and assess their understanding in real-time.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Each session typically starts with a brief review of previously covered material, followed by an introduction to new concepts through interactive explanations and examples. For crash courses, I condense content into key points and practice-heavy segments, allowing students to absorb essential information quickly. In all sessions, I integrate practice questions, especially self-crafted ones, to assess comprehension. I then provide feedback on their responses, ensuring any misunderstandings are clarified before the session concludes. Afterward, I share the session’s materials with the student for further review.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
What distinguishes me as a tutor is my tailored approach. Every student receives a personalized experience, from lesson pacing to question difficulty. My self-created questions are a unique tool that push students to think critically and apply concepts in innovative ways. I also create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable tackling challenging material, promoting confidence and resilience in learning.
Who the Lessons Are For
My tutoring sessions are tailored for pre-med and undergraduate students, particularly those preparing for the MCAT or struggling with core pre-med subjects like biology, chemistry, and biochemistry. My experience with admissions and the MCAT process allows me to support students from a variety of academic backgrounds, ensuring each is well-prepared for their specific goals and milestones.
