About Alex
I am relatively new to giving one-on-one lessons, although I have recently graduated university with a 2.1 in BA Italian and Spanish. I can therefore tutor students up to university level (C2), whether it be for GCSEs, A level, university modules or simply adult learners wanting to learn from a language graduate.

My language tutoring will help you learn to speak Spanish or Italian at a conversational level. I can help you prepare for GCSEs and A levels, or give you the skills to communicate with native speakers on holiday. Perfect for people who don't enjoy learning in a tedious classroom environment.
Building on the learning approaches I used while studying at Cardiff University, I separate tutoring sessions into 3 areas - communication, grammar and translation.
Communication focuses on learning how to say basic phrases and creating a response, to achieve a conversation. It is also where aspects such as pronunciation are learnt.
Grammar involves how to use different tenses and how to structure sentences in order to be understood by a native speaker, a very important aspect.
Translation involves developing key language skills such as comprehension, vocabulary and written communication with different types of texts/transcripts.
I believe the best way to learn a new language is to be thrown in at the deep end, being spoken to in the target language from the start. This allows students to develop the key skills rather than memorising words and phrases, which are eventually forgotten. For this reason, I encourage students to ask questions and speak in the target language as much as possible.
