About Brian M
I am Brian M. Woody, the university mathematics educator, published mathematician, and consultant behind Woody Calculus. I am also known professionally as the Private Professor.
I have more than 25 years of mathematics teaching experience, including approximately 13 years as a lecturer at the University of Nevada, Reno and earlier university teaching experience at Colorado State University. I hold master's degrees in both Pure Mathematics and Applied Mathematics.
My academic specialties include Calculus II, Calculus III, Differential Equations, Vector Calculus, Infinite Sequences and Series, Abstract Algebra, Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, finite fields, algebra, and advanced university mathematics. My work also includes mathematical research and technical consulting involving modeling, cryptography, blockchain technology, energy, water systems, ballistics, and patent analysis.
I founded Woody Calculus to provide structured, professor-led mathematics education for serious university students and advanced learners. My teaching emphasizes conceptual understanding, rigorous reasoning, careful mathematical notation, and complete step-by-step solutions rather than memorization alone.

I am Brian M. Woody, the university mathematics educator behind Woody Calculus and known professionally as the Private Professor. I have more than 25 years of mathematics teaching experience, including approximately 13 years as a lecturer at the University of Nevada, Reno and previous university instruction at Colorado State University. I hold master’s degrees in both Pure Mathematics and Applied Mathematics.
My instruction focuses on advanced high school and university mathematics, including AP Calculus BC, Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, Differential Equations, Vector Calculus, Infinite Sequences and Series, Abstract Algebra, Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, and related upper-division mathematics courses.
My teaching method emphasizes mathematical understanding rather than memorizing isolated formulas. A typical lesson begins by identifying the exact concept causing difficulty. I then explain the relevant definitions, theorems, and strategy before developing a complete step-by-step solution. Students learn how to choose the correct method, justify each step, verify their work, and communicate mathematics clearly.
What sets my approach apart is extensive university teaching experience combined with structured, professor-led instruction. Lessons are designed primarily for serious college students, engineering students, mathematics majors, and advanced learners who need support with demanding computational or proof-based coursework.
