About Jack
I have been tutoring professionally since 2017, having completed two Oxford degrees in English and Theology, and with a broad portfolio of teaching experience in classrooms, chapels, and one-on-one sessions.
I am old-fashioned, and care deeply about the Western literary canon as something which can shape us ethically, give us profound insight, and show us great beauty. It is my privilege to help those who find Literature frustrating see a little more wonder in the act of reading and understanding.
I live in Oxford, UK, with my wife Emily and our new baby, Madeline.

I favour a student-led, conversational style using a shared online whiteboard; on this, we analyse texts, complete past papers, and drill techniques. My lessons are 1hr minimum, but no longer than 1.5hrs. I have worked with students who find English incredibly boring and hard, but also those who enjoy it and wish to go further.
I have over six years of experience teaching English for 11+, school entrance exams, GCSE/iGCSE, A-Level/IB and Oxbridge entrance exams (ELAT). I completed my BA in English at the Trinity College, University of Oxford, where I was awarded a Percival Scholarship. I have subsequently studied a Theology degree, also at the University of Oxford, and specialise in Christian allusion in literary texts.
