About Uma
My name is Uma and I am a first year medical student (now second year) at the University of Birmingham. I grew up in Cardiff and have always had a strong passion for science and have always enjoyed helping others learn.
I studied Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Spanish at A Level, which has given me a strong academic foundation across STEM and analytical subjects. At GCSE overall, I achieved 5 grade 9s and 4 grade 8s at GCSE.
I consider myself a 'people person' and quite an approachable friendly person. I enjoy helping students build confidence and find helping students understand difficult topics very rewarding.

My teaching style is highly student-centred. I tailor my sessions to each student's strengths and weaknesses, aiming to find out exactly what gaps each student has in their knowledge and technique through practice questions/tests and then working on those areas. For me, students verbalising their thought process in answering questions is very important as I can spot specific issues and I can refine their approach in the moment.
I achieved all 9s in my GCSE sciences and studied Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Spanish at A-level, demonstrating thorough knowledge of the content and understanding of exam strategy.
I hope to create an environment where my students are challenged but can build confidence and independence and am eager to share all my tried and tested study methods and exam strategies that help reach top grades!
