About Theo
As a guitar instructor with 10 years of experience, my teaching philosophy is built on the belief that students thrive when they’re encouraged to learn through connection and curiosity. Working primarily with school and college students, I tailor each lesson to the student’s interests while ensuring they develop the skills necessary for long-term growth. We start with the basics—fingering, strumming, chord changes, rhythm—and from there, build out into areas like improvisation, songwriting, and ear training. I introduce music theory in an applied, hands-on way that shows students how it functions inside the songs they love. My approach blends structure with flexibility; some students learn best through repetition, while others thrive on creativity and challenge. A standout moment from my career was helping a student design and perform a full solo set at their school talent show, which they had previously never thought themselves capable of. The pride they felt in that accomplishment was a testament to what supportive, student-centered teaching can do. I bring positivity, patience, and genuine enthusiasm into every session. Whether you want to strum for fun or write your own music, my goal is to help you grow with confidence and curiosity.

Teaching guitar for the past 10 years has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. What truly excites me is working with students who bring their own unique backgrounds, tastes, and learning styles to the instrument. I understand that no two players are the same, and I pride myself on creating lessons that are both structured and flexible enough to meet each student’s individual needs.
My approach combines solid technical foundations—like finger positioning, chord shapes, and rhythm—with an emphasis on creative expression and music theory. This combination helps students not only play songs but also understand what makes the music work, giving them tools to explore their own musical ideas.
Over the years, I’ve had the joy of watching many students grow from complete beginners to confident performers. One of my proudest moments was guiding a small group who, inspired by their progress, formed a band and started playing local gigs. The teamwork, dedication, and excitement they displayed was incredible to witness, and it reminded me why music education is so important: it fosters community, communication, and self-confidence. My teaching style is grounded in patience and encouragement, helping students overcome common challenges like finger pain, timing, or sight reading without frustration. I always aim to make lessons fun and relevant by connecting theory to songs and genres that students love.
Whether someone wants to play classic rock, blues, jazz, or pop, I tailor lessons to their goals. Beyond just playing, I also encourage improvisation, songwriting, and performance skills so students feel prepared to share their music in any setting. Music has the power to build focus, creativity, and self-esteem, and seeing these benefits manifest in my students is deeply fulfilling. I am committed to helping every student find their own voice on the guitar and develop a lifelong passion for music.
