About Heather Bender
This past year was my 12th year in the classroom. For the past six years, I have taught both 4th and 5th grade math. I have also private tutored and held group study sessions in my school’s after school care program. I earned Teacher of the Year for 2023-2024 and I am honored to be a teacher on staff at one of the top 10 schools in my state. I partner teach 4th and 5th grade in a unit that helps students by providing extra dips of intervention in both reading and math, while focusing on grade level standards.

I focus on each student’s individual needs and meet them where they are. It is important that students do not continue to move forward until they are able to successfully work within the standard they are struggling with. Improving academically is important, but if a true development of number sense , place value, fractions, etc., is not evident, a student will continue to struggle.
