About Andrew
I've been learning languages my whole life and am wholly sincere when I say I find great satisfaction when I get the opportunity to share that experience whenever I can. I've seen the world open up to me through my travels and everyday life using my Spanish, and my self taught albeit basic but functional French, Brazilian Portuguese and Mandarin Chinese.
I've been tutoring my classmates in English, teaching Spanish to students in China, and even participated in "Plan Ceibal" (The One Laptop Per Child program in Uruguay in 2009) which fomented language learning across digital platforms.
I come from a long line of writers, critics and book worms. I myself am not up to the task of filling those huge shoes but what I do know is that I love languages. I love to read and write creatively. I've been published in online magazines like Sounds and Colours and my translations have also been published by media outlets based in L.A as well as government agencies here in Uruguay.
I found that coming to Uruguay at the age of 18 to study law gave me an extra edge, I had to prove to my professors and peers that I was better than average. I spent my first four years living with my Uruguayan grandparents in their apartment which was basically a small library curated by a retired Spanish literature teacher (grandma) and a United Nations translator, diplomat and previously a columnist and critic at the head of the film and theater section of El País and Marcha, two major publications here in Uruguay (grandpa).
I'm a multilingual scrabble champion on some days and a student interested in current events, popular culture and local, regional and global politics every other day.

My lessons are about you! I like to speak as much Spanish as possible and encourage my students to do the same little by little. I modulate my vocabulary and grammar as you progress, as if we were learning together. I love teaching any level from A1 (beginner level) to C-3 (advanced fluency).
What's more important for me however is that my students feel safe and confident, that they can and should make mistakes on the road to fluency. The more mistakes you make, the less mistakes you make.
I craft my course material based on each student and have hundreds of handmade lesson plans from teaching over the years. I open a shared google drive with the student where they can access their course material and go over it together complete with fun illustrations, videos and exercises. I like using Zoom to teach because of its user friendly platform.
I'm excited for each of my students to find their voice and their accent and not feel pressured to sound or speak a certain way while we develop your language skills. The grammar, expressions, the syntax will all come together naturally as we begin to construct ourselves in another language. I'm happy to get into as much nerdy linguistic detail as I am to teach practically for everyday communication.

Hello, I've known Andrew all his life. I have seen his development into a competent, enthusiastic and dedicated Spanish teacher. As a legacy Spanish speaker, he is bilingual and bicultural. He is ready to give his best to every student and to do it with commitment and humor. I strongly endorse Andrew as a Superprof. Try him, you will learn and have fun in the process!
My Spanish has improved considerably largely due to tutoring from Andrew. Being a native English speaker gives him that special understanding of how we are seeing things. Whatever your level, whatever is blocking you. He can fix that.
Ive known Andrew for 10-11 years now, we both speak in Spanish and English now.. Great co-worker, helped me out through the kitchen years, consistent with his work. Most definitely a bilingual teacher. I would really recommend this guy. Always has interesting topics to discuss…
I am learning Spanish from Andrew for couple months now and so far it has been a great experience. He is a very thoughtful teacher who puts a lot of thought into how he presents the material. His lessons are engaging, useful, easy to understand and he is very patient, encouraging, he provides both a great mix of listening, speaking and writing. In addition Andrew provides a very safe, supportive learning environment, he motivates me to build confidence and he is always calm and eager to help! I would highly recommend him to anyone interested in learning Spanish.
I've met Andrew during my exchange experience in Uruguay in 2015 and since the first day we became good friends. He's a very kind and lovely person. He's authentic and a very good professional, he has a huge experience teaching and he's an entusiastic language learner. I trust his work and his methodology (and I'm also an spanish teacher so I know how it works). If you want to have great classes with an amazing teacher you should definitely choose Andrew!

I'm flexible as far as scheduling goes and respect my students' time as much as my own. I'm happy to go a few minutes over and or dedicate time outside the online classroom to talk about the learning process. I prefer PayPal and may begin to accept Venmo in the future. I only take upfront payments even if it's only for a week or two to ensure accountability, responsibility and to build trust. Thank you!
