About Ebony
My name is Ebony and I am a recent USC graduate! I have always been passionate about teaching and mentorship and have been tutoring elementary students in South Central for nearly 3 years now through USC's Joint Educational Project! I have tutored over 15 students grades K-5 and have increased all their state test scores to the "proficient" quartile or higher. I have also worked in Summer Camps, after school programs, and pre-school classrooms so I am very experienced and confident working with students of nearly all age groups -- I have served nearly 100 students grades Pre K-12 in the last 3 years. I am fluent in Spanish so I can work with bilingual students and Spanish-speaking parents as well!

I am an English tutor and focus on reading, writing, and English Language Arts. Because English can be taught in so many different ways, I like to design my lesson plans around the unique interests of each individual student, which is why getting to know my students is very important to me; a good tutor-student relationship is my top priority! :) I aim to teach my lessons in ways that are applicable to the student's life -- students learn better when they are able to draw connections between their own life and what they're learning. I usually use the first couple of tutoring sessions to get a feel of what the student's struggle areas, strengths, and interests are through diagnostic tests and activities, and then tailor my lessons to their individual needs and learning styles. I am adaptable and am prepared to deal with curveballs -- if a student isn't understanding something, that just means I need to teach/explain it in a different way!
