About Valerie
French has been part of a nineteen-year tutoring career during which I have guided 990 students toward fluency, confidence, or exam success. My own fluency developed through conservatory level study abroad combined with years of professional performance work across French speaking regions. I am a demanding but deeply invested tutor, believing genuine fluency requires patient, deliberate practice rather than rushed memorization. Many of my tutoring relationships have lasted years, letting me guide a single student's entire language journey from first lessons through advanced fluency. My French teaching after nineteen years centers on precise diagnostic assessment, identifying exactly where a student's understanding breaks down before designing a targeted lesson plan rather than following a generic syllabus. I place strong emphasis on deliberate, focused practice with difficult grammar structures, insisting on genuine mastery of a pattern before moving to more complex variations. Vocabulary and grammar are taught together with real cultural context, showing students directly how language reflects the culture behind it rather than presenting rules in isolation. For exam preparation I rely on frequent mock oral and written assessments under realistic conditions, since comfortable understanding alone rarely guarantees confident exam performance. I maintain detailed long-term progress notes for every student, tracking subtle improvements across months.
