About Marie
I have spent nine years teaching French, working with 410 students ranging from nervous beginners to those preparing for extended stays abroad. My own connection to the language grew through several years living in a French-speaking city, where I learned firsthand how differently a language sticks when it is used daily rather than studied from a textbook. I keep my teaching relaxed and genuinely encouraging, since I understand how intimidating it feels to speak an unfamiliar language out loud. Many students arrive worried about their accent or pace, and helping them relax into natural speech is one of the parts of teaching I enjoy most. I remain available between lessons for quick pronunciation questions, since steady momentum matters enormously in the early stages of learning.

I center my French lessons on real conversation from the very first meeting, since students build confidence far faster when they are actually speaking rather than memorizing rules in isolation. Grammar is introduced through patterns noticed naturally in dialogue, and I revisit tricky structures gradually across several sessions rather than expecting immediate mastery. I choose topics based on what each student genuinely wants to talk about, whether that is travel, food, or work, since personal relevance makes vocabulary stick far more reliably. Short voice recordings are shared after each lesson so students can review pronunciation in their own time. Every session closes with a brief unscripted conversation entirely in French, giving students a low-pressure space to apply what they have just learned.
