About Joe
I am primarily a rock and metal guitarist with nearly 20 years of experience. I currently play lead guitar in Wellington bands Ovus, and Lazy Suzan, however I have tons of experience playing and performing many other styles including pop, funk and jazz. I studied the foundation course at NZSM in 2009 to give me a solid understanding of theory fundamentals. I have plenty of recording experience from both playing and production sides, and a lot of live performance experience, playing guitar at events such as Twisted Frequency, Pride Parade and Newtown Festival.
Working as a guitar tutor from 2009-2015, I have taught dozens of students from ages 8 – 60+ covering areas such as guitar basics, acoustic fingerstyle, electric rhythm guitar, applied music theory & soloing. I’m comfortable teaching absolute beginners and more experienced performers.
After a fulfilling a lifelong dream to study & work as a biologist & conservationist, I am thrilled to return to music tutoring from the comfort of my home studio in Rongotai.
