About Vivian
I am a violin tutor with over 7 years of experience and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Theory with a focus on violin. I specialise in teaching adult beginners and returning learners who want to explore the violin beyond traditional classical training. My lessons focus on improvisation and non-classical genres such as jazz, blues, folk, and worship music. I use simple, practical exercises that help students progress without feeling overwhelmed. My teaching approach focuses on helping students become fluent readers on the violin. Sight-reading is at the centre of every lesson, starting with clear, systematic steps. I guide learners through understanding ledger lines, complex rhythms, and multi-part scores. Each exercise builds visual-to-finger coordination so reading becomes second nature. I believe this skill gives players the freedom to pick up new pieces instantly. My method also emphasises patience and repetition, making even challenging passages manageable. I dedicate time to ensuring learners are confident in both rhythm and pitch accuracy. For Musical Theatre Enthusiasts, this means being able to read and perform music with confidence in rehearsal settings. For Worship Singers, it means adapting quickly to multi-part arrangements in real time. Lessons are structured yet flexible, adapting to each student’s pace. I use practical drills, duets, and ensemble-style reading to reinforce skills. This makes learning interactive and fun.
