About Kathleen
I am a teacher who values honesty and high energy in every interaction. Working with adults and intermediate learners allows me to focus on the nuance of chord voicing and posture.
My 13 years of performing in NYC and on tour shaped how I approach technical hurdles like scales and arpeggios. I have taught 298 students to navigate complex music with better timing. Helping a student prepare for ABRSM or Trinity exams brings a satisfying structure to our time together. I will show up at your home with my digital piano to make sure our sessions are as convenient as possible.

Starting a lesson usually involves an honest confession that sight transposition can feel like learning a foreign language at first. We break down the memorisation techniques that make difficult repertoire manageable for any player. Since I carry my own digital piano to your door, we never waste time waiting for an instrument to be tuned. We explore jazz improvisation and classical phrasing as two sides of the same musical coin.
You might find that your hand position improves almost immediately once we adjust your bench height. It is quite common for my intermediate students to wonder why these patterns seemed impossible only a month ago. I keep things light because learning should be a process of discovery rather than a drill. We move at your pace while keeping the standards high for your upcoming grade exams.
My job is to ensure you feel supported through every scale and arpeggio we tackle. Expect a transparent approach where we focus on how the music feels under your fingers.
