About Ali

I hold an MSc in Environmental Engineering (Distinction) and a Geophysics degree, and over a decade of teaching experience, so I know how to explain tricky concepts in a way that actually makes sense, not just repeat what’s already confusing you in class.

I’m Ali, a science graduate with an MSc in Environmental Engineering (Distinction) from Glasgow Caledonian University, and a first degree in Geophysics. Alongside my academic background, I bring over a decade of teaching experience, gained internationally across two countries, so I know how to break down difficult concepts and keep students genuinely engaged — not just work through a textbook.
My approach starts with understanding where a student actually is, not where the syllabus assumes they should be. I identify gaps in foundational understanding first, then build exam technique on top of that, always mapped to the specific exam board a student is studying. I use real-world examples from my own background in science and engineering to make abstract concepts click, and I check understanding actively through questions rather than just talking at a student.
Lessons typically run 60 minutes, though this can be adjusted depending on age and attention span — younger or GCSE students sometimes benefit from shorter, more frequent sessions, while A-level students often prefer longer sessions to work through full past-paper questions.
I teach GCSE and A-level Chemistry, and Physics up to GCSE level. My students range from those needing to close a specific grade gap to those aiming for top grades who want extra depth and exam-technique polish.
