About Kalyani
I'm currently pursuing a doctoral degree in neurobiology at Kyoto University (Japan). Before embarking on this new adventure, I worked as a research assistant at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for ~5 years. I have extensive experience in literary and scientific publishing, including editorial work (in both fields). My sole focus for the past 6 years has been on advancing my scientific career. Alongside, I have been publishing my literary works since 2012, and working as a poetry editor since 2020.
I have had multiple opportunities to provide feedback to my writer friends. Moreover, my work as a poetry editor allows me to provide constructive criticism that is both conceptual and technical, and may inspire the writer to fully verbalize the complexity of a piece. However, I've always regretted not being able to provide such feedback in a structured format, and in a manner that allows me to engage with the work for a longer time.
As a writer, I'm acutely aware of the need to feel safe while receiving criticism. I believe that constructive criticism should be palatable and empathetic to the emotional state of the work and the author, and not inflammatory or degrading. So, this is exactly what I intend to bring to the table.

I will offer detailed feedback on your fiction/non-fiction/poetry manuscripts. The focus will be on improving the language, structure, and (if the author permits) creative scope of the material. Feedback will be offered via e-mails (with your text annotated with comments) or video calls.
