I adopt a student-centered approach to tutoring, focusing on the individual needs and learning styles of each student. My method involves a blend of guided discovery and direct instruction, aiming to foster both understanding and independent problem-solving skills. Techniques I use include:
Interactive Problem Solving: Encouraging students to work through problems aloud to identify their thought processes and correct misconceptions.
Socratic Questioning: Asking guiding questions that lead students to discover answers on their own.
Real-World Applications: Relating abstract concepts to real-world scenarios to make learning more relevant and engaging.
Customized Practice Problems: Providing tailored exercises that target specific areas of difficulty and reinforce key concepts.
A TYPICAL LESSON:
Introduction (5 minutes): Brief review of previous material and outline of the day's objectives.
Concept Explanation (15 minutes): Detailed explanation of the new topic, such as Newton's Laws of Motion, with visual aids and examples.
Guided Practice (20 minutes): Working through example problems together, applying the new concepts.
