About Matthew
As stated, I have been teaching for 13 years around the D.C. area. I have taught a wide range of students, all of whom have brought something (often many things) to contribute to my classroom.
I LOVE watching that light-bulb turn on after we analyze a piece of literature, and the text you thought was boring or too difficult is now a stepping-stone to greater things. We will read literature together, and I will ask you questions in a style you might not be used to, because it will really make you think not just about the characters or the plot of the story, but also how you might deal with similar circumstances or scenarios in your own life. I know many of us just HATE writing, and believe me, it was never my favorite growing up either. However, I teach writing in a way that you will always have something meaningful and impactful to say. That I promise you!

I have been teaching for 13 years, so I am in that great spot with quite a bit of experience without really any burnout! I still love teaching a rigorous lesson that requires in-depth analysis of texts, coupled with engaging questions and writing prompts that require the mind to do a lot of its own thinking. I am great at scaffolding material to meet a wide range of student needs, as I have taught a variety of classes over the years. I have taught all levels of readers and writers from ages 10-18. I have taught Special Education classes, as well as gifted classes, so my expertise is far-reaching. I would love the opportunity to be a part of your child's growth!
I also have a ton of experience tutoring for PSAT/SAT and various state-mandated tests.
