About Alison
I have taught Math for over 30 years. I've won a national award; I've authored the I Hate Math book. For decades, I've been helping many students turn confusing problems into achievable small steps.
In 1994 I earned my BS in Math from Virginia Tech. In 1996, I received an award from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
I have taught PreAlgebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Trig, PreCal, Calculus at high schools in NC, TN, and MA. I've also taught these subjects and more basic math to home-educated students.
I am the author of I Hate Math: Engaging Lessons & Activities to Help Kids and Teens Love Math, a book written to help parents and teachers make math meaningful and approachable.
I graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS in Math. I taught Pre-Algebra through Calculus at high schools in NC, TN, and MA. I was awarded a summer position at Eastman Chemical Company, where teachers learned real-world applications of mathematics. I also received a national teaching award from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Each year I direct a large Pi Day Party that helps students experience the creative and enjoyable side of math while strengthening their critical thinking skills.
I enjoy helping students improve their math skills and confidence. My goal is to help students succeed not only in their grades but also in how they approach challenges.
