About Julie

I am a dedicated, distinguished, determined educator who is committed to excel in teaching as a caring creator and guider of learning experiences for students with differing educational needs. My fundamental belief is: all students have unique gifts and abilities to offer the world. It is my role to help instill confidence and develop skills to allow them to utilize their talents.

As a certified English teacher (Grades 6-12), I focus on developing proficiency in grammar and vocabulary in order to advance the written and oral communication of my students. I concentrate on promoting reading comprehension by teaching the necessity of both factual and inferential understanding. Additionally, I believe the crux of our future is based on educating today’s youth in discovering and developing critical thinking, problem solving, imagination, honesty, and responsibility.

I have a unique ability to connect with others. This gift has been demonstrated in my past achievements and awards:

- "Heart of the School Award for Creativity and Innovation"

- “Educator of the Year”

- “The Person Who Made a Difference for Me!” by the Minority Pre-Collegiate Program

Here are some things students have said:

ABOUT MY TEACHING METHODS:

“I really liked your teaching method. You made things easy to learn and with enjoyment. You also listened to what everybody had to say with an open mind.” --Jon A.

"Lively, humorous--the way a class should be--educational but fun." -- Dennis P.

"She answers questions without getting angry or upset if she has to repeat. A question never goes unanswered." -- Kate W.

"You do everything to help us understand the material." -- Courtney M.

ABOUT MY TEACHING OF WRITING:
"My work flows better and there are fewer awkward sentences. There aren't as many wimpy verbs. My paper speaks with more authority and it has better adjectives." --Tom O.

“I never, ever liked to write before your class and now I do. When I write a paper or essay, I definitely spend more time to make it sound its best.” Francis L.

"My grammar and sentence structure significantly increased. I became a much better writer. I could get my words out of my head and on paper better." --Kurt H.

ABOUT MY TEACHING OF ACT PREP CLASSES:
"I thought you might like to hear how I did on the ACT: English 31, Reading 28!!! Thank you so much for all your help. I appreciate it, and, as you can see, it really paid off! You have a gift. It's incredible how everything just made sense after you explained it to me. I knew what to look for, and I could see the answer before I read it in the question." -- Matt R.

"My Reading score was a 22 the first time and went up 9 points! My English score is now a 27 which means it went up 6 points! Thank you for all your help. I really appreciate it." -- Amira H.

ABOUT MY TEACHING OF LITERATURE:
“I think the most valuable things I’ve learned about literature were that it’s fun and you can learn a lot from literature. I used to think English was boring, but I like it a lot. Reading has also helped with my vocabulary.” -- Hannah P.

“I have done a lot of reading this year. I have learned to take it more seriously. Now I want to read more and my interest in reading has grown a lot since last year.” -- Tom R.
