About David
I worked as a researcher and a teacher in a university for over 20 years. In that time I taught hundreds of students and supported them from beginning their undergraduate degrees through to completion of Masters' level dissertations. Many of my students have gone on to higher degrees and or success in their chosen careers. My areas of subject specialism relate to health and social care topics, with a particular focus on dementia care. In common to study of these academic subjects is the need to write well, to structure and plan, to be critical in your writing and to view editing as part of the writing process. I know that everyone is different and can benefit from support and advice tailored to that person. With a friendly approach and with attention to detail, I can support you to make the most of your academic talents.

My teaching methods are online-based and range from an initial free 'diagnostic' session to discover your needs and formulate a plan, leading face-to-face discussion with individuals or with groups, online receipt and return of excerpts of your writing with clear feedback on key characteristics (such as: clarity and economy of expression, planning, structure, criticality, citations and referencing and internal coherence) through online tutorials or discussions using common interfaces, such as Zoom, Skype or Google Hangouts.

This first lesson is free to allow you to get to know your teacher so that they can best meet your needs.

Details
Any additional cost for travel will be the equivalent of the cost of a return bus or train (whichever is most appropriate) fare from Sheffield city centre. Any additional travel cost must be agreed in advance with the student.
If a student needs to cancel an agreed session they must give at least 24 hours notice by email but can only do this ONCE without paying in full for the agreed session. Any subsequent cancellations after a first cancellation will have to be paid at the agreed rate for the session.
