About Anna

Hello everyone! I'm Anna, originally from Corfu, Greece. I’ve been calling England home for over 20 years now, and this has given me a deep understanding of the language, culture, and the unique atmosphere of the country. As a native Greek speaker with a passion for languages and teaching, I bring both experience and enthusiasm to our lessons. Having grown up surrounded by Greek culture and being fluent in both Greek and English, I can easily help bridge the two languages.
Teaching isn't just about grammar and vocabulary; it's about connecting with people and understanding their individual needs. With 25 years of experience teaching both Greek and English, let me tell you! It has been an incredible journey! I've had the privilege of teaching Greek to learners from all walks of life, whether they were planning a brief visit to Greece, relocating for work, or settling there permanently. In teaching English, I've worked with adults focused on advancing their careers, as well as children and young adults preparing for exams and language certifications. I teach both Greek and English in French, English, or Italian. Like many, I recognise the personal and professional value of learning a foreign language, along with the challenges that come with it.
Although Greek may seem challenging due to its different alphabet, complex grammar, and pronunciation, it is certainly achievable with dedication and consistent practice. A common question among students is how long it will take to speak and hold a conversation, and how many lessons are needed to reach that point.
There’s no "one-size-fits-all" answer to this, as learning Greek varies by individual. Some learners may reach basic conversational skills within a few months of focused study, while others might need a year or more to get to the same level. Progress depends on factors like your learning style, previous language experience, and how much time you can dedicate to study.
Many students choose to take 2-3 lessons per week if their schedule allows, which helps maintain steady progress while balancing other commitments. Others may start with just one lesson per week and gradually increase as they gain confidence in the language. These are general guidelines, as results will vary based on personal circumstances.
Remember, learning a language is a gradual process that can include ups and downs, so it’s important to stay patient, be kind to yourself, set realistic goals, and practice consistently to keep progressing.

What to Expect from a Lesson with Me:
Many people agree that the best way to learn a language is by immersing yourself in a country where it’s spoken. Since this isn’t always possible, the next best way is through interactive and engaging conversations. I believe in creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable to practice and make mistakes. My lessons offer a relaxed, and supportive environment where mistakes are celebrated as part of the learning process. Learning should be enjoyable and motivating, so expect books, level-appropriate short stories, lively discussions, and plenty of laughter!
In our first session, I will assess your language level through casual conversation and work with you to create a personalised, goal-oriented approach that aligns with your objectives in Greek.
For Complete Beginners:
If you are starting from scratch, our initial lessons will focus on the basics:
• Learning to read and understand the sounds of the Greek alphabet
• Combining syllables to form words
• Using articles
• Engaging in simple greetings and conversations, gradually progressing to more complex interactions
Greek for Holidays:
If you're planning a trip to Greece, we’ll tailor lessons to prepare you for real-life situations. You'll learn how to:
• Introduce yourself in Greek
• Order your favorite food or drink
• Ask for directions, and more!
Conversational Greek:
We will focus on topics that interest you, having discussions about your favorite subjects to improve your fluency.
Greek for Advanced Speakers & Exam Preparation:
If you’re preparing for the Greek language certification exams, expect structured and intensive lessons. We will cover grammar, listening, and speaking practice. You’ll also become familiar with colloquial expressions, idioms, Greek mythology, literature, music, and more.

I am a Greek native speaker.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

Emblematic representatives of the language's culture are Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle; Ancient ruins and monuments such as Acropolis.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

I love the sincere, friendly approach and hospitality of Greek culture.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

It's part of my heritage and my culture.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

The main difficulty in learning this language is the articles and the way they are used. What can help the process of learning is breaking down and explaining the way the articles change in agreement with the nouns, adjectives, and adverbs. Lots of practice activities, listening to real-life conversations and patience.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

One of the day-to-day colloquial expressions is: "Τα πήρα στο κρανίο" which in free translation means "I took them in the skull". We use this expression when we want to show the extension of our anger. It means that I am very very angry.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

Travelling into different parts of the country always amazes me when I interact with the locals and learn about the local dialects.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?
