About Khali

Yoga, an ancient science for mind, body and spirit, has been my deepest love for 14 years. I’ve taught, trained, and created yogic programs for young and old throughout California, New York, Egypt, Senegal, Gambia, Uganda, India, Sri Lanka, Japan, and Ecuador.

My teaching style focuses on
gentle discipline and honor - to invite the sacred into ordinary existence,
strengthening spinal posture - to help us “stand among the gods,”
quieting the mind - that one may discover the value of razor sharp awareness in a distracted culture,
releasing emotions and tensions held in tight hips - to make space for embodied presence and free one’s self from outdated baggage,
& cueing specific physical alignments - that one may become knowledgeable in anatomy and the body’s intelligence.

Born in California to a Japanese mother, granddaughter to a real life Indiana Jones, I am a global citizen and cosmic adventurer and when I’m not on the mat, I am likely walking barefoot in the wilderness or meditating at sunrise on some desert sand dunes.

 Today, Yoga is often thought of as a physical therapy or movement practice that helps stretch, loosen, relax, rehabilitate…

 Yoga traditionally, is a complete spiritual science that works with subtle energies to transform one’s life from a mundane existence into cosmic awareness and higher ways of being in thought, attitude, beliefs, lifestyle, and perception.

 If you are mainly interested in the physical component (1/8th of all that Yoga offers), I can be of assistance and customize for you weekly asana (posture) sequences that target your goals.

Lessons can be 90% physical, with brief yogic philosophy and meditation to best understand how this science works on you.

If your interest is in upgrading yourself, changing your habit patterns, refining your mind, speech and body on all levels, then we can move through an individualized pace of the entire Ashtanga Yoga system. Lessons will blend yogic philosophy, physical postures, breath work, concentration training, and meditation practices.

Ashtanga means “8 limbs,” with each limb performing a specific function that can lead one to the highest state of wisdom, and to something far greater than one’s sense of a limited self.

 Traditionally, the purpose of physical yoga postures (called asanas) is to prepare the body (especially hips, spine, and mind) to withstand sitting comfortably in longer durations of meditation. Deeper states of meditation accesses deeper layers and levels of consciousness, astronomically enriching one’s life and reality.
