I approach chemistry by learning fundamentals. Basic chemistry, like high school chemistry or chem101 classes in college, are all based on trends. Once the trend is learned, it's easier for the student to grasp the information. History of chemistry is also significant to understanding the course as well. For instance, the Bohr model or the Lewis Dot structure allows for the student to see the structure of the atom and compounds. In science, structure and function are inter-related. So, knowing the structure would help them understand the function. Finally, chemistry is supposed to be fun. I learned how catalysts worked and how endothermic and exothermic changes occur by making ice cream in a bag. I want for my students to have that much fun.
