About Gianna
I am a current high school science teacher, specializing in Cell Biology and Anatomy and Physiology. Prior to the four years I have spent in high school education, I received a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences and a Master's in Teaching. I have volunteered in charter schools and taught full-time in private, college preparatory schools. This experienced allowed me to not only encourage the students academically, but also participate in their overall growth and development as adolescents. These experiences and interactions with the students have provided a strong foundation for healthy and effective teacher-student relationships over the years.

In every lesson, my primary goal is for the student to walk away with an understanding of the content. I do not just want them to memorize notes and regurgitate what I say; rather I aim for my students to engage with the material so they are able to integrate into their minds and lives. There are many methods I employ to reach this goal, such as connecting the content to the students' interests or passions. When I meet one on one with them (i.e. tutoring opportunities), I am able to create that deeper personalized connection. Furthermore, allowing the students some choice in their learning experience creates a stronger engagement. Oftentimes I give them two to three options for their projects, topics choices, among other project/ assessment ideas. This allows to express themselves, show their preferred creative outlet, while also demonstrating mastery of the content.
