About Kira

I have been teaching piano for over 20 years with a focus on enjoyment, proper technique, and musicality. I studied with some of the country's best classical piano instructors and my teaching embodies the same high standards. Students will be gently pushed to better their musical practice but always remain in control of their experience.

Helping students learn the language of music is deeply satisfying! Musicality is such an important part of brain and emotional development, I find it's key to having a happier life.

I started teaching when I was 13 and had already performed with an orchestra and won multiple 1st place awards. Never really stopped since!

About the lesson

We will first assess where the student is in their training, if they're completely new or have some experience. Most people have some musical experience even if they don't know it (YES - singing in the car counts!). We will then start with appropriate books, I usually use Faber for beginner levels. With more advanced students we will pick appropriate repertoire and go from there.

I've worked with complete beginners through moderately advanced students working on Beethoven Sonatas and Bach Partitas.

Look for someone you get along with - a piano teacher is most importantly a friend and colleague, less so an authority figure. They are teaching you to speak in their language so you can converse on this other plane of reality!
