About Patricia

I teach personally to every individual student. I teach a bit of technique, theory, style and individualized interests for every student.

I love how different all my students process the learning.

I have always wanted to be a teacher. In 5th grade, my band teacher paired me with a student with a physical disability. She was learning to play the clarinet. I spent my lunches working with this girl and helping her make progress to cover the holes and make a consistent sound. Even though the student make very slow progress each week, and couldn't join our regular lesson group, I learned that I had patience with people who wanted to learn music. This was the ultimate decider for me. I also co-directed our church choir alongside my mother growing up, and assisted my music teachers with substitute lessons and peer coaching until I graduated high school.

I have a Bachelor in Music: Music Education from SUNY Fredonia and a Masters of Music: Music Education from University of the Arts, Philadelphia.

I am a music educator in the School District of Philadelphia, certified K-12, teaching piano class, guitar class and directing the choir. I have taught private piano lessons and coached vocalists since 2005. I also have accompanied professional singers, operas and choirs for many occasions.

About the lesson

I will usually use the first lesson to learn what my student already knows. If you are switching from another teacher, I let the student play what they have learned. I get a good sense for note-reading skills within the first four lessons.

I have taught K-12 since 2008, in public and private schools. I have experience with students with autism, beginning adults and children, intermediate levels and students preparing for a college auditions.

Look for a teacher who has clear goals for you, but allows your input. Teachers who have experience in guiding you but are flexible in tuning to your specific needs.
