About Carlos

I take a student center approach. You will have a say in the songs you learn for the lessons. I have trained in a variety of different genres, so I know how to teach a variety of styles in an effective clear way.

I enjoy watching my students improve. I became a teacher so I can help my students perform at a higher level, so when I see them break bad habits and improve their sound, it makes me feel happy for them.

I was a performance major during college, and I got a job as a music theory tutor with the university. The first time I helped someone understand a musical concept, their excitement made me feel so happy for them. It was then I decided to dedicate my life to teaching.

I have a bachelor's degree in voice and viola and I am currently studying at UM for my master's degree in music education. I am new to this company, but I have taught students in 3rd and 5th grade in an elementary school classroom, students in 3rd - 5th grade in violin and cello, and students in 7th-12th grade in a weekend and summer camp in contemporary voice and viola. I also have a contemporary voice private studio of adults aged 19 - 23.

About the lesson

I begin with asking them questions about their goals, so that the experience benefits them the most. I like to get to know my student's musical background. Then, I hear them sing or play. Afterwards, I would give specific warmups to the student that are based on the thing that needs the most improvement. These warmups will be incorporated into the song, and the student will practice those techniques before the next lessons.

I have worked with students in grades 3-5 (vocal, general music, and strings), students in grades 7-12 (vocal, violin, viola, songwriting), and students at the university level (vocal, songwriting, viola, music theory).

Teachers should be patient, clear, and knowledgeable. They must be on time, prepared for the lesson, and committed.

Students should have some examples of artists or genres they want to be able to perform. It is up to the student to decide what kind of music they want to perform.

Details

I charge a rate of $30 an hour. However, the first lesson is $20. Lessons can be scheduled weekly or bi-weekly. I travel to my students within 25 miles. If you live further than 25 miles and would like me to travel to you, please message me and we can discuss a fee depending on distance.
