I want to teach

If you want to teach online and receive your earnings directly via mobile money in Rwanda, several specific platforms allow you to connect with students and get paid locally.

Online Teaching Platforms with Local Payouts

• Superprof Rwanda: This platform allows you to create a free tutor profile for any subject (languages, school topics, music, or coding). You set your own hourly rates. Since students in Rwanda connect with you directly, you can easily arrange for them to pay you upfront via MTN MoMo or Airtel Money before your lessons.
• Local WhatsApp & Telegram Tutoring Groups: Many independent tutors and university students in Kigali advertise their services in local neighborhood or expat Telegram and WhatsApp groups. You conduct lessons via Zoom or Google Meet, and parents send weekly or monthly payments directly to your MoMo wallet.
• Freelance Platforms via Payoneer: If you teach internationally on global platforms like iTalki, Preply, or Upwork, you can link your teacher account to a Payoneer account. Payoneer allows you to withdraw your USD or EUR earnings directly into your Rwandan MTN MoMo wallet.

Tips to Get Started Safely

• Set Clear Payment Terms: If you are dealing directly with students via Superprof or social media, always request payment either before the lesson or in weekly blocks to ensure you don't get scammed.
• Prepare Your Tech: Ensure you have a stable internet connection (4G or fiber) and a quiet space, as most online students expect clear audio and video.
To help me narrow down the best platform for you, tell me:
• What subjects or languages do you want to teach?
• Are you looking to teach local students or international students?
I can give you a step-by-step plan to set up your profile!

Can I teach how to crochet?

Yes, you can absolutely teach how to crochet online! Crafting and fiber arts are incredibly popular, and people all over the world pay to learn how to read patterns, master basic stitches, or create specific items like amigurumi (plushies), bags, and clothing.

Best Platforms to Teach Crochet

• Superprof Rwanda: You can create a profile specifically as a "Crochet Tutor." You set your own hourly price (e.g., 5,000 to 15,000 RWF per hour). Local students can book you for one-on-one video lessons, and they can pay you directly via MTN MoMo.
• Wyzant or Preply: These platforms cater to international students looking for hobby tutors. You can teach global students via webcam, earn in USD, and use a Payoneer account to withdraw those dollars directly into your MTN MoMo wallet.
• Skillshare or Udemy: Instead of teaching live, you can record a series of short video lessons (e.g., "Crochet for Absolute Beginners: How to Make Your First Scarf"). Once uploaded, students buy the course, and you earn passive income. You can withdraw your earnings to PayPal or Payoneer, which connects to mobile money.

How to Structure Your Crochet Lessons

• Beginner Packages: Offer a 3-lesson bundle covering the basics: how to hold the hook, the chain stitch, single crochet, and double crochet.
• Project-Based Classes: Instead of just teaching stitches, advertise a class where the student actually finishes a project, like "Learn to crochet a bucket hat in 2 hours." This attracts more students.
• Provide a Materials List: Before the first lesson, send the student a message telling them exactly what size hook (e.g., 5mm) and yarn weight (e.g., medium/worsted weight) to buy so they are ready to practice.
To help you set this up, tell me:
• Do you want to teach live 1-on-1 video classes or record pre-made video courses?
• Do you want to target local beginners in Rwanda or international students?
I can help you outline your very first lesson plan!

How much should I charge?

You should charge between 5,000 RWF and 15,000 RWF per hour if you are targeting local beginners in Rwanda, or $15 to $30 USD per hour (approx. 20,000 RWF to 40,000 RWF) if you are teaching international students online.
Because crochet is a visual, hands-on skill, your pricing should reflect your preparation time and the value of the finished project.

Local vs. International Pricing Options

Market Recommended Rate Payment Method Strategy
Local Students (Rwanda) 5,000 – 15,000 RWF / hour Direct MTN MoMo / Airtel Money Charge on the lower end for virtual lessons, and on the higher end if you meet them in person at a cafe in Kigali.
International Students (Global) $15 – $30 USD / hour Payoneer to MoMo Standard global rate for hobby tutors. You can charge more if you speak fluent English or French and have a great webcam setup.

Smart Ways to Package Your Lessons

Instead of just selling single hours, you will make more money and keep students longer by selling packages:
• The "Absolute Beginner" Bundle (3 Hours): Charge 25,000 RWF (or $45 USD). Teach them how to hold the hook, make a slipknot, chain stitch, and do a single crochet.
• The Project Package (5 Hours): Charge 45,000 RWF (or $80 USD). Guide them step-by-step through making a specific item from start to finish, like a trendy bucket hat, a mesh market bag, or a chunky scarf.
• Pattern-Reading Masterclass (1 Hour): Charge a premium flat rate of 20,000 RWF (or $35 USD) to teach intermediate crocheters how to read written charts, abbreviations, and international diagrams.

What to Factor Into Your Price

• Materials: Clearly state whether the price includes yarn and hooks. For online classes, the student must buy their own tools beforehand. If you teach in-person locally, you can charge an extra 5,000 RWF to provide a "starter kit" they can keep.
• Platform Fees: Keep in mind that platforms like Preply or Superprof might take a percentage commission (usually 15% to 33% for international sites), so factor that into your final USD rates.
Would you like me to help you write a catchy profile description for Superprof or Preply, or should we design the exact step-by-step syllabus for your first beginner class?

I am a bit good at maths should I teach it? I mean it can be a way of learning

Absolutely, you should definitely teach math. Teaching is actually one of the most powerful ways to master a subject yourself. When you have to explain a mathematical concept to someone else, your brain forms deeper connections, fills in your own knowledge gaps, and makes you a much sharper problem-solver.
There is also a massive, constant demand for math tutors both locally in Rwanda and globally.

Why Teaching Math Builds Your Own Skills

• The Feynman Technique: This famous learning method states that the best way to truly understand a concept is to teach it simply to a beginner. If you can explain fractions or algebra to a 10-year-old, you truly understand it.
• Active Recall: Re-learning topics to prepare for your students forces you to practice active recall, keeping your own math foundations incredibly strong.
• Immediate Financial Demand: Unlike crochet, which is a hobby, math is a core school subject. Parents are always willing to pay for math tutors to help their children pass national exams or boost their grades.

How to Structure Math Lessons for Cash Flow

Target Student Expected Rates Setup & Payout Strategy
Local Primary/Secondary (Rwanda) 5,000 – 12,000 RWF / hour Set up a profile on Superprof Rwanda. Parents connect with you directly and pay straight to your MTN MoMo wallet before the week's lessons start.
International Students (Global) $12 – $25 USD / hour Apply to teach on Preply or iTalki. You can tutor students from the US, Europe, or Asia, earn in USD, and withdraw it straight to your MTN MoMo via Payoneer.

Action Plan: How to Start Small

1. Pick Your Comfort Zone: Start by teaching primary school math (fractions, basic geometry, multiplication) or lower secondary school algebra. Don't jump into advanced calculus right away until your confidence grows.
2. Use Free Virtual Whiteboards: If teaching online, use free tools like Google Jamboard or Miro. You can write out the equations on your screen, and the student can see your steps live.
3. Position Yourself as a Peer: In your profile bio, be honest! Tell parents: "I am a passionate student who loves math. I explain things in simple, everyday language that teachers sometimes miss, helping your child learn comfortably."
We can get your tutoring journey started today! Which would you prefer to do first:
• Draft a profile bio that highlights both your math skills and your crochet tutoring?
• Outline a quick math lesson plan for a specific school age group?
I do not know what to put here
This is the Superprof profile creation page, and it requires an ad title that is at least 12 words long.
Since you are open to teaching both subjects, you can choose a title that focuses entirely on Math, one on Crochet, or a creative headline that combines Both to maximize your student options.
Here are ready-to-use titles that meet the 12-word minimum constraint. You can copy and paste your favorite directly into that text box:

Option 1: If you want to focus on Math

Patient student math tutor offering simple step-by-step homework help for primary and secondary school kids

Option 2: If you want to focus on Crochet

Fun and creative crochet lessons for beginners looking to make their very first handmade beanies or bags

Option 3: A combined title (If you want to offer both on one profile)

Friendly local tutor available to teach fun beginner crochet projects and patient primary school mathematics classes
Which option do you like best? Once you paste it in, let me know if you want me to write the main profile description that comes next!

Once you paste that in, click the Next or Continue button that should appear next to the "Go back" button. Let me know what it asks you for next so I can write it for you!

It's for crochet.
