About Dilina
I'm Dilina, a gigging guitarist based in Sri Lanka with over 8 years of playing experience. I perform live regularly, which means the skills I teach aren't just from books; they're tested on real stages, in front of real audiences.
Alongside music, I'm a final-year Computer Science undergraduate, so teaching and breaking down complex ideas into simple, clear steps is something I do every day. I bring that same patient, methodical approach to guitar: no jargon, no rushing, just steady progress you can hear and feel.
Over the years I've played across a wide range of styles on both acoustic and electric guitar, and I've helped friends and fellow musicians improve their playing long before I started teaching formally. I teach comfortably in both English and Sinhala, and I genuinely enjoy watching a student go from struggling with their first chord to confidently playing songs they love.
Music changed my life, and my goal as a tutor is simple: to make learning guitar feel exciting, achievable, and fun; while building the solid technique that keeps you improving for years.

Hi, I'm Dilina.
A gigging guitarist with over 8 years of playing experience, and I teach guitar online in both English and Sinhala.
My teaching method
I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Every student learns differently, so I adapt my method to you: if you learn best by playing songs you love, we start there and pick up the theory along the way. If you prefer a structured, step-by-step foundation first, we build that instead. My lessons are demonstration-based — I show you exactly how something is played, break it down piece by piece, and guide you as you play it back to me, correcting technique in real time. This is how musicians have always learned from each other, and it works.
A typical lesson
We start with a quick warm-up and a review of what you practiced since the last lesson. Then we work on the main focus of the day — a new technique, riff, chord progression, or song section — which I demonstrate slowly and clearly before you try it yourself. We finish by setting a clear, achievable practice goal for the week, so you always know exactly what to work on.
What sets me apart
As a gigging guitarist, I teach from real stage experience, not just textbooks. That means you learn practical skills that actually matter when playing for others — timing, feel, confidence, and how to recover from mistakes. I'm patient, I explain things in plain language, and I can teach comfortably in English or Sinhala, whichever you're more at ease with.
