About Dash
Everyone is capable of being a musician. Most people just haven't found a way of learning that inspires them. I never thought I could learn music until I heard the Ramones. Their raw, three-chord energy made me realize that all you needed was a feeling you wanted to express.
Guitar gets easier fast once you know what you want to say with it. When you're chasing a sound you love, you'll naturally want to learn the chords, riffs, and techniques that get you there. Theory and technique are part of the journey, but we'll learn them as your songs call for them, so they feel like your own discoveries instead of a textbook chapter.
I teach guitar through listening, chord shapes, and fretboard patterns before reading music or complex theory. We'll learn the songs you actually love, and each lesson is paced to keep playing exciting while your skills keep growing.
My background in psychology guides how I teach. How you feel while you're learning matters more than anything else. When you're in flow, skills sink in faster, and playing what's inside you feels good. I also use meditation and mindfulness to help students build intuition, which is what lets you play by feel instead of by rules.

Core Principles:
Make music from day one. Each phase of learning ends with a song or piece you can actually play, not a list of drills.
Play what you love. We build lessons around the artists and songs that got you excited about guitar in the first place.
Find your flow. Every lesson is pitched at the right level: challenging enough to hold your attention, comfortable enough that you want to keep playing.
Listen first, read later. We focus on ear training, copying riffs, and improvising before notation and tab charts. If you want to go deep on reading music, we can do that too.
Learn theory when you need it. New ideas come up naturally, as answers to the questions that come up while you're learning songs you care about.
General lesson structure:
Warm up (5 min): Tune up, chat, and play something you worked on or even just something cool you heard this week.
Check in (10 min): Run through the concepts you practiced, then get feedback on what's sounding good and what needs work.
New skill (15 min): One new chord, technique, or idea, tied to the song you're learning.
Play it (20 min): Put the new skill to work by playing along, jamming, writing, or arranging together.
Practice plan (10 min): Set goals for your week of practice and for our next lesson.
