About Premjit
Premjit started his musical journey at the early age of 5 when he started learning Tabla and is a Sangeet ‘Visharad’. He is also a disciple of veteran Conguero Monojit ’Kochu’ Datta and has extensively learned Latin percussion from him. He has also completed his formal grades for Percussion and Theory of Music from Trinity College, London.
He is currently recording and touring with experimental jazz fusion act THE BODHISATTWA TRIO with whom he has recorded 3 critically acclaimed albums and has toured extensively across Europe and Asia. He has also been a part of latin-jazz outfit THE LATINATION, and popular blues outfit BIG FAMILY.
He was one of the top ten international talents invited by the Music Board Berlin and Pop- Kultur Festival to participate in their festival in 2016 as a resident artist.
He has also been an active educator and has been teaching at The Calcutta School of Music and C4 for more than 15 years. He has recently become a member of the Trinity Rock and Pop Examiner Panel.
Premjit endorses Zildjian cymbals and Vic-Firth sticks.

From my vast experience of teaching students across various age groups and skill levels for the past couple of decades, i know that no two students are the same and every individual has unique needs , so i tend to improvise and customise lessons for each student based on their limitations and strengths. Anybody who likes Rock n roll, Blues, Jazz , Latin , Country or Pop music and has a knack to beat things around can sign up for my sessions!
During my sessions:
- i tend to use trinity college materials as set pieces and then go deeper to demonstrate rudiments and their applications
- being a trinity examiner myself , i can really help you to prepare for your grade and diploma exams and can guarantee a merit if not a distinction
- i like to share a fair amount of history and discuss styles and genres in depth with recommended listening for deeper understanding
- i teach music theory in details and prepare students for theory exams
- i talk about real life challenges of a working musician, starting from 'practice room etiquettes' to 'on stage monitor balance' to 'life on road - dos and don'ts of a touring musician'
