About Kathy
I've been playing piano since I was a small child. About 8 or more years ago, I started teaching the piano. In addition to the piano, I also play the violin, viola, and some cello, and play for a local Church Orchestra. I am a certified Music Teacher in Texas and have been trained by Yahama, through a local Music Store, in the KEK method for piano.

I believe in teaching students skills and how to apply those skills to the music they love. I incorporate this in a variety of ways, from technology, videos, theory, and hands-on. While I do use a method book for basic lessons and theory, I also allow for students' personal preferences to be included in supplemental music.
I think what sets me apart is that I approach music from an analytical viewpoint, why I do things the way I do, and then pass on this knowledge to students. In addition, I believe in helping students identify the mistakes they made and how to correct them, as this helps them become more aware of their playing. And when students have a hard time trying to incorporate the practice into their daily routine, I will help them create a schedule, that allows them to identify when they can practice throughout the week.
These lessons are for those who have never played, to those who have played for a few years or haven't played in several years. From ages 5 or 6 to adults. (The younger you are, I will request an adult or older sibling to be nearby.)

Perfect! Adult learner with limited background in music: Kathy, was very professional and organized a great plan to fit my needs. I had played as a child and had some books (children's books and adult piano books). She reviewed my books, looked at my skills, my goals (I am not looking to be a professional), and my time to tailor make something that I can do. I am excited to continue my lessons with her. I highly recommend her.
