About Brandon
⦁ In parallel, being a full-time multidisciplinary research scientist-cum-engineer positions me as an active practitioner of STEM at the intersection of biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and engineering. This practice-embedded fluency enriches my teaching by enabling me to introduce authentic case studies, practical heuristics, realistic experimental constraints, and cross-domain problem solving into the classroom.

Teaching Philosophy ⦁ My teaching philosophy is grounded in authentic and experiential learning, where students take on an active and participatory role in their own learning process. I believe that genuine understanding emerges when students are encouraged to investigate concepts through inquiry, collaboration, and practical application - transforming abstract knowledge into experiences that are personal, tangible, and enduring. ⦁ Having studied within the Singapore education system, I have observed how learning often becomes a mechanical, iterative process driven predominantly by examination-centric priorities. While this cultivates academic rigor, it may inadvertently obscure the practical relevance of knowledge, diminishing students' natural curiosity and motivation. This challenge resonates with me at a personal level - as a once disengaged and unmotivated student, I understand firsthand how it may prevent students from developing an interest in academics. This lived experience has shaped my conviction to teach not only with empathy, but with intent and purpose. ⦁ In my work with students, I strive to bridge this gap by foregrounding why a concept matters and how it manifests in the real world. By contextualizing theory through everyday examples and real-world phenomena, I help them recognize the impact of academic knowledge beyond textbooks and rediscover their interest in learning. ⦁ I am committed to fostering a conducive learning environment through bi-directional, dialogic interaction with students instead of positioning teaching as a unidirectional transfer of information. I approach lessons as collaborative exchanges, inviting questions and facilitating structured debate, where students are guided to articulate hypotheses, challenge assumptions, analyze arguments, and evaluate alternative explanations. Importantly, this interactive model not only sharpens their critical thinking and analytical skills, but also develops the confidence to think independently. ⦁ In today's digital era, I also advocate strongly for technology-enhanced learning to augment conventional teaching approaches. I incorporate tools such as science animations to visualize abstract concepts and complex processes, alongside interactive simulations or virtual labs to create high-interaction spaces for students to experiment and apply their learning.
