About Grace

As a passionate musician and educator with a PhD in music education specializing in violin, my career has been a journey dedicated to both performance and teaching. With over 15 years of experience teaching violin and viola to students of all ages and levels, I bring a deep-seated commitment to nurturing musical talent and fostering a love for music.

My journey began with intensive training in classical violin, leading to performances in orchestras and chamber ensembles. Alongside my performance career, I pursued advanced studies in music education, focusing on effective teaching methodologies and the psychology of learning music. This academic foundation informs my approach to teaching, ensuring that I provide comprehensive and effective instruction tailored to each student's needs.

In my teaching practice, I prioritize creating a supportive and inspiring learning environment where students feel encouraged to explore and grow. I believe in a personalized approach that addresses each student's unique strengths, challenges, and musical aspirations. Whether guiding beginners through their first notes on the violin, coaching advanced students in intricate techniques, or mentoring aspiring improvisers in jazz, I strive to cultivate both technical excellence and artistic expression.

Continual professional development is integral to my role as an educator. I am dedicated to staying updated with the latest trends in music education and incorporating innovative teaching techniques into my lessons. This commitment allows me to provide enriching and dynamic learning experiences that empower students to reach their full potential as musicians.

Ultimately, my greatest joy lies in witnessing my students' progress and growth as musicians. Whether preparing for performances, auditions, or simply enjoying the pleasure of playing music, I am deeply committed to guiding and inspiring each student on their musical journey. I am privileged to share my passion for music and contribute to shaping the next generation of violinists and violists who will carry the tradition of music forward with skill, creativity, and passion.

In my violin and viola lessons, I strive to create a dynamic and enriching learning experience tailored to the unique goals and abilities of each student. With over 15 years of teaching experience and a PhD in music education specializing in violin, my approach combines technical proficiency, musical expression, and personalized instruction.

Each lesson is carefully crafted to build a strong foundation in classical and jazz techniques, tailored to the student's current skill level. For beginners, I emphasize proper posture, bowing techniques, and basic music theory, ensuring a solid groundwork for future advancement. Advanced students benefit from in-depth exploration of advanced repertoire, stylistic nuances, and specialized techniques such as improvisation.

I believe in fostering a supportive and encouraging atmosphere where students feel motivated to explore their musical potential. Beyond technical skills, I emphasize musical interpretation, expression, and the development of a personal artistic voice. Whether it's mastering a classical concerto, delving into jazz improvisation, or exploring contemporary styles, I encourage creativity and musical exploration in every lesson.

To enrich the learning experience, I utilize a variety of teaching methods including scales, etudes, sight-reading exercises, and ensemble playing. I also integrate music theory, ear training, and music history to deepen students' understanding and appreciation of the music they play. Regular performance opportunities, workshops, and recitals provide students with valuable stage experience and a chance to showcase their progress.

Ultimately, my goal is to inspire a lifelong love for music and empower students to become confident, expressive musicians. I am dedicated to guiding each student on their musical journey, whether they aspire to pursue music professionally or simply enjoy playing as a fulfilling hobby. Through personalized instruction and a passion for teaching, I aim to cultivate excellence and artistry in every student I teach.
