About Terry

I am a recent graduate from the University of Chicago and an experienced classical pianist/composer, having received numerous international awards over my 13-year career. These have included the National Association for Music Education award for best composition, and a performance by members of the Budapest Radio Symphony in Hungary, as well as at Interlochen Festival in Michigan. I have given concerts performing repertoire from Chopin to Prokofiev, at numerous charity events and churches. My unique blend of expertise and enthusiasm makes my piano lessons enjoyable for students of all levels.

About the lesson

As a piano tutor I aim to blend objective performance principles with the student's individual goals and needs. Lessons will typically consist of (in chronological order):

1. Assessment of individual goals (technique, repertoire, etc.)
2. Finger warm ups, basic scalar/motivic patterns.
3. Repertoire exploration and practice.
4. Review takeaways and prescribe at-home practice.

Lessons are open to pianists of all age groups and levels. As a classical composer and improviser for 13 years, I bring a unique perspective to my lessons focusing on freedom and creativity.

In view of the fact that Terry is a classical composer and improviser I selected him as tutor. Terry is technically skilled and very passionate about classical music, and his creative side brings joy and excitement to improvisation. He also speaks French and Spanish and is conversant in philosophy. I really look forward to our sessions.

Terry was highly recommended to me by a fellow piano student.
Terry's style of Superprof helped promote my creativity. He gave me freedom of repertoire selections and genres on which to focus, while still thoroughly exploring technical and musical concepts.
I highly recommend Terry to others because of his patience, kindness and brilliance.
