About Berni Mateo

I've been studying and playing music since I was 8 years old, and I started giving private lessons over 10 years ago.
I'd love to share my experience and knowledge with you.
I've learnt to play piano, guitar, bass, and harmonica privately.
I also learned language, harmony, theory, ear training, improvisation, and songwriting at MCA (Buenos Aires) and Berklee (virtually).
I've been playing in various musical projects (rock fusion, Afrobeat, jazz, funk, etc.) and teaching for over 10 years (guitar, piano, bass, harmonica, ear training, harmony, etc.).
I teach in Caballito/Villa Crespo neighborhood and online.

We work at a personalized pace to always see something new but not get overwhelmed either.
We progressively add information: adding notes, adding rhythms, adding chords, adding scales, adding melodies to create the music we love.
The starting point is the songs or pieces that fascinate the student; that is the raw material for my classes.
Enthusiasm is more important than discipline; passion more than demands; pleasure more than effort.
Practice can be useful, but above all, it must be enjoyable.
Complexity is not always the best or most beautiful.
Theory is a tool, and so is technique. Used well, it helps a lot; used poorly, it kills the art.
My influences are María del Carmen Aguilar, Victor Wooten, Kenny Werner, and Stephen Nachmanovitch.
