About Juan
I'm a Colombian-born, Los Angeles–based musician, songwriter, producer, and educator with a background in performance, recording, and music education. I studied Contemporary Writing and Production at Berklee College of Music and have spent the past several years performing professionally in a wide variety of settings, from cruise ships and theater productions to wedding bands, recording sessions, and original artist projects.
While drums are my primary instrument, I'm also an accomplished guitarist, vocalist, arranger, and producer. Having worked on both sides of the stage and in the studio, I enjoy helping students and collaborators understand not just how to play music, but how to think musically.
As an artist performing under the name BOTERO, I write and produce music inspired by artists like John Mayer, Mac DeMarco, Mk.gee, Theo Katzman, and Dijon, blending thoughtful songwriting with modern production. My experience spans live performance, session work, arranging, recording, and music production, giving me a well-rounded perspective that I bring to every project and every lesson.
Whether I'm performing, producing, or teaching, my goal is always the same: to help people connect with music in a way that's creative, authentic, and enjoyable.

Hi! I'm Juan, a professional drummer, performer, and music educator with years of experience teaching students of all ages and skill levels.
I've performed over 200 live shows in settings ranging from wedding bands and theater productions to cruise ships, and I've studied contemporary music at Berklee College of Music. Whether you're picking up drumsticks for the first time or looking to improve your groove, technique, coordination, or musicality, I tailor every lesson to your goals and learning style.
My lessons focus on building strong fundamentals while making sure playing drums stays fun and inspiring. We can cover:
* Technique and stick control
* Groove, timing, and feel
* Rock, pop, funk, jazz, indie, and Latin styles
* Reading drum notation
* Playing along to your favorite songs
* Improvisation and musical creativity
* Practice routines that actually work
I've taught students through private lessons as well as music schools throughout Southern California, helping beginners build confidence and more advanced players break through plateaus.
