About Darleen

Precision matters to me but not at the cost of someone switching off. I have spent my career refining the Russian bow arm and teaching the mechanics of intonation to 420 students. Scales and arpeggios are the bedrock of our work together.

These technical drills define my approach to double stops and shifting positions. Nervous beginners are a big part of my week and I like that part.

I teach classical repertoire alongside spiccato and staccato bowing. Tuning by ear is essential for any serious orchestral playing. Reach out if you want to explore this path.

About the lesson

Tightening your grip on the bow often causes the stiffness that ruins a performance. I address these tension issues by focusing on bowing technique and posture during our time together.

Drawing on my BMus from the Rice University Shepherd School of Music, I examine your form to ensure your mechanics hold up when I am not there. Clear intonation requires a disciplined foundation that we build through repetitive, focused exercises.

My method ensures that you gain the confidence needed to handle complex orchestral playing. Providing free bowing and posture reference notes after each lesson helps maintain consistency between our meetings. These 8.0 point focused summaries keep your practice sessions productive and structured. You will develop the independence required to play with technical freedom and musical clarity.
