About Maria

I have always had a strong academic background in math, science, and problem-solving. I graduated from high school with honors and went on to complete a Bachelor of Science, earning placement on the Honor Roll during my university studies. I was also recognized with an award for an undergraduate GIScience project, which reflected my ability to apply analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills to real-world work.

My professional experience has allowed me to continue building on those skills. I previously worked in Engineering Services at Vancouver International Airport, supporting engineering and infrastructure-related work, and I now work at an engineering consulting firm where I use math, data analysis, GIS, and problem-solving regularly.

Through both my education and professional experience, I’ve learned how to take complex information and break it down into clear, understandable steps. As a tutor, I bring that same approach to my students while keeping lessons patient, encouraging, and low-pressure. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, learning from mistakes, and gaining confidence in their own abilities.

About the lesson

My tutoring approach is patient, encouraging, and adapted to each student’s learning style. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and working through problems at their own pace. I focus on breaking difficult concepts into simple, manageable steps, explaining ideas in different ways until they click, and using guided examples and practice questions to build both understanding and confidence. I also adjust each lesson based on what the student is currently learning in school and where they need the most support.

A typical lesson may include:
- Reviewing current class material
- Homework or assignment help
- Step-by-step explanations of difficult topics
- Practice problems completed together
- Quiz or test preparation
- Reviewing areas where the student needs extra support

At the foundation of my tutoring is creating a positive, low-pressure environment where students feel supported, comfortable asking questions, and confident in their ability to learn!
