About James
Hi there, James McCullagh here! I'm a Maths and Science tutor based in central London.
I recently completed a Masters in Aeronautical Engineering from Imperial College London, giving me a strong mathematical and scientific background to build off when tutoring my students. I believe having this level of education is invaluable when teaching these subjects, as it allows you to provide strong explanations for in-depth questions students may have beyond the course, allowing them to have greater understanding of the material being studied.
After working for three years with ESM Prep, a top class private tuition company, I have over 150 hours of tutoring under my belt, equipping me with a wealth of experience with a large variety of different pupils of all academic levels.
My approach to teaching is that I believe that any topic, which on its own may seem overly complex or insurmountable, can be broken down and solved by simple first principles. Through the reduction of problems into small steps, it’s possible to gain a firm grasp over problem-based thinking at an early stage, which makes anything possible- for all students.
Being born and raised in rural Ireland, I have a keen love of the outdoors, and on the weekends go on mountain biking and hiking trips. Since moving to London I have also began climbing and bouldering, which has been made possible by London's huge variety of climbing centres.
