About Sonja
I am an experience and registered yoga teacher. I have taught over 2000 hours of yoga and have close to 1300 hours of certified training through registered yoga schools around the world. I founded Emergence Yoga School that teaches students the ancient art of yoga through philosophy, anatomy, teaching techniques, sequencing, ethics, meditation and business. I have developed a faculty of awe-inspiring world class leaders in their fields from Ayurvedic medicine, business, counselling and anatomy. People I work with become inspired, self-motivated and passionate about their own practice and begin to share their passions with the world!

My teaching is based on experiential learning. I teach to all learning modes - visual, oratory and experiential. For example, together, we learn about yoga, yoga styles, yoga practices and techniques. Students are then guided through physical practices of yoga. Different sequencing is introduced theoretically and experientially. Postures are broken down and analyzed through alignment, styles and whether they require a stronger flow or passive yin. Students then learn about their own bodies in poses and how best to support themselves through their own practices. Then, we create classes based on a new understanding of how to sequence a class, what poses to focus on for different levels of energy and abilities, and guided by a theme. We move from the big picture, to an individual level and build it all back up again.
