About Edmund Daniel
I am an experienced scientist and educator. I have been tutoring since 2005, while a university student. Since then, I have helped many students enter college and university, excel in their studies, finish their programs and courses and recover from academic slumps. I am employed as a professional research scientist, which grounds my expertise in the sciences, mathematics, computer skills, programming, writing and presentation. My objective is to help students succeed in their goals, whether that's excelling in their studies, finishing their programs or studying for a test.

I offer lessons from Grades 10 to the Ph.D. level on: • Sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Physics • Mathematics: Advanced Functions, Calculus, Statistics • Computer Essentials: MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint • Programming: Java, Python, C/C++, Excel VBA, SQL • Writing and Presentation: Theses and Dissertations I guarantee that the student will see an improvement in grades, exhibit stronger confidence and skills in the subject and even have fun while learning! I approach learning as a life skill with the particular subject being a test case. So when I teach math, I do not really teach math, I teach students to learn, with math being the subject. The goal is for them to learn on their own so that my services will no longer be necessary. I achieve this by combining technical competence (teaching students the material) while bringing a human side to teaching (encouraging students, providing study advice, accommodating difficulties). It is important to me to build a human connection with the learner while also being technically proficient in the subject. A typical tutoring session is Socratic, student-led and tutor-assisted. Prior to the session, I will communicate with the student to get an idea of his/her needs and goals, such as studying for an exam, learning a difficult concept or having a particular skill being demonstrated in a hands-on exercise. The teaching approach is then tailored to the needs. For example, if a student needs assistance in learning how to perform statistical analysis, I will prepare a short talk on the topic and its mathematical foundations. I will also prepare exercises and data for the student and I to work on. Then, I will demonstrate how to perform the analysis. The tutoring format is flexible and can be structured as in a lecture or Socratic, wherein tutoring is conducted as a dialogue between the student and the tutor.
