About Raveen

I am a recent graduate of the UC Santa Barbara Honors Program with a B.S. Degree in Physics, alongside minors in Asian-American Studies and English. I have a year's experience of tutoring through the university, assisting undergraduates with physics problems assigned as homework.

Through my tutoring, I seek to help students not only confront the immediate challenges in their subject, but also practice sound learning strategies, and, in the long term, to gain an appreciation for the beautiful process. My tutoring is heavily informed by my experiences as a student. I don't attempt to mimic the teacher, but instead complement that role: practical help and attention to individual needs. I have also learned from being a student bored by tutoring. I avoid repetitive, tedious exercises, and when required I challenge students to keep them engaged.

I received my degree with a 3.95 GPA and research experience focused in theoretical astrophysics, for which I received a summer fellowship. I am able to tutor for all high school-level math, up to and including AP Calculus BC, and physics at the high school and college level. From my experience with math and physics I firmly believe that the best way to conceptualize and develop mastery is by actively working through challenging problems.

I am able to tutor for writing and English on the basis of my college education. For my fiction writing, I have won a departmental award for artistic achievement and 2nd place in a short story contest.

But while I took a liking to math and science early on in life, I struggled with writing and literature in school for a long time, even into my first year in university. But my struggles, my subsequent improvement, and my newly gained love for those subjects allow me to truly empathize with a student who is having difficulties in any discipline.
