About Tosin

My name is Tosin Adewunmi. As a dedicated Special Education professional with over 15 years of experience. I hold an M.Sc. in Education Specialist, an M.A. in Education Leadership, and a B.A. in Communication Studies with a minor in Journalism. My career has been centered around developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and utilizing various teaching methodologies, underpinned by a comprehensive understanding of special education laws and regulations. I am certified with a Clear Education Specialist Credential and an Administrative Services Credential. I also have an Autism Authorization certification.

Since 2023, I have been serving as an Education and Inclusion Specialist at Wish Academy High School. Here, my role involves creating inclusive teaching strategies, developing IEPs in collaboration with teachers, administrators, and parents, and conducting sensitivity training for staff. My responsibilities also include coordinating evaluations for special needs and monitoring the effectiveness of our inclusion programs.

Previously, I worked in the Compton Unified School District as a Resource Specialist from 2012 to 2023. In this role, I liaised with external service providers such as speech therapists and occupational therapists, trained classroom teachers in supporting students with special needs, and spearheaded the integration of assistive technologies. I was also instrumental in designing behavior intervention plans for students with challenging behaviors and conducted parent workshops.

Before that, from 2011 to 2012, I was an Education Specialist in the same district. My responsibilities included maintaining student records, co-teaching with general education teachers to ensure inclusive practices, and developing curriculum materials tailored to the needs of special education students. I also organized extracurricular activities and field trips specifically designed for these students.

My journey began as a Substitute Teacher from 2009 to 2011 in the Compton Unified School District. I adapted to various classroom settings, supported the integration of students with special needs, and provided additional academic support when needed.

Throughout my career, my focus has always been on providing individualized support to students with diverse learning needs, collaborating effectively with various stakeholders, and continuously enhancing my skills and knowledge in the field of special education.
