About Michael
I prioritize understanding, strategy, and engagement. For all tutoring, I employ a ramp-up process that begins with easy confidence-booster questions, and progresses to more challenging examples, maximizing learning-per-minute every step of the way.
Understanding: I give students the tools to navigate a test question by themselves. Genuine understanding empowers students to improvise when faced with novel questions.
Strategy: Standardized tests & class tests are predictable. I personally solve genuine past tests, and distill my experience into insights that students can use. What does this question want me to do? What do I do with this equation? My students learn the ins-and-outs of the questions, from an expert problem solver's perspective.
Engagement: So that every tutoring minute counts, I monitor the student's body language, tone of voice, and written thought process to steer the conversation to maximize learning. I want to know how the student feels about the subject at every step of the way.
The "aha!" moment brings a moment of joy. The more joyful the tutoring session, the more enjoyable and productive it is.
