About Ian
I'm willing to take on just one or two students at once, I take teaching very personally. I also find math + computers very fun so I hope to convince my students of this as well.
I enjoy wrapping my head around math + computer problems. It's fun and rewarding, and--when you get good at it--quite addicting.
I was a double major in [abstract] mathematics and computer science in college. I currently work as a software engineer in a financial firm, so my job does involve math. I manage our risk analytics Boston branch so I'm familiar with teaching and I very much enjoy it.
A quick side note: I did score a 5 on the AB calculus exam when I was in high school, and scored a 35 in the math section of the ACT.

Step one is figuring out the student's goals--this will drive the daily agenda for the most part. However one of my personal goals when I work with students is to show them the bigger picture and why they're doing a particular claculation. I find that understanding this makes it more fun and will help them get an intuitive sense how to tackle problems.
