About Sean
Forget what you've heard about math. Sure, it probably "comes naturally" to some people, but that's not the case for most. Math requires practice. But if you practice new without mastering the old, things can become a mess. "I don't understand this." No, you just went too fast. Many struggle with new concepts or test anxiety not because they're not smart enough; they just haven't taken the time to build their skills with repetition. So they proceed into more advanced topics with even more frustration and confusion. I get it. Math can be intimidating. But even with the most complex of complex problems, it's usually nothing more than a whole ton of what you've previously learned piled on top of a little something new. So, where's the problem? For most students, difficulty with new material is almost always because they didn't *quite* understand the old concepts. Where do I come in? Well, identifying which concepts those are might not be so easy. Let's go over where you have difficulty and isolate some earlier math you may need to refresh on. Simply going back and polishing old skills can give you an incredible confidence boost when you realize your current material is not as complicated as you thought. We can then revisit your current material and attack new concepts with a stronger foundation and new sense of optimism. I look forward to working with you!

My teaching method focuses on YOU: Many students struggle because they can't identify their stumbling blocks. I first observe as they work through a problem to see where they stumble. Many times it's not a new concept that is giving them difficulty, but failure to fully grasp previous, foundational concepts. What foundational skill that needs attention is not always clear. I will isolate where you need to go back and re-build. A small adjustment in how the material is presented can make a huge difference. I enjoy using analogies, memorization techniques, and drawings to help explain concepts. I will tailor my teaching and lesson plans to the learning style you find most effective. My lessons are for junior high, high school and college students taking all levels of algebra, pre-calculus and calculus, including calculus of multiple variables.
