From nine years of teaching, I know that committing to improving children's experiences outside school will benefit their learning considerably. I have been fortunate enough to work with children aged 3 to 13, in classes with such a wide range of abilities, making me realise the importance of developing each and every student and providing challenging, but exciting activities to extend their learning and maximise their confidence. Through altering my teaching strategies and having high expectations of both the students’ work and behaviour, I can create a more positive and hard working atmosphere.
Whilst teaching, I always ensure the atmosphere is one where the students can take risks without fear of failure and the lesson content is such that learning is taking place at all times. I believe each student should have as many learning opportunities and experiences as possible, in order to engage, motivate and prepare them for future life skills.
My recent roles have involved working with different year groups, both in class and out, with small and large groups, ensuring they are achieving their full potential, whether it may be helping lower ability children grasp a topic for the first time or helping the higher ability excel and applying what they have learnt to their full extent. I believe, with the skills I have learnt through teaching such a wide range of children during my career, that I can make sure every child has the opportunity to learn, to enjoy learning and to benefit from learning.
